This is Wayne's World

Is it the details or the emotional content of the image that make the image?

I vote for the later. It’s the memories you think you have when you see a snapshot of someone else’s life

It doesn’t matter that the picture may be a little blurry or that it’s double exposed. You’re living the moment with the subject and even if that’s feeling joy or sadness, it’s emotional escapism. The same effect is achieved watching TV or a movie. And it seems that everyone likes telly and trips to the cinema. Don’t they?!

Don’t get me wrong

I’m not saying a crisp, smart photo with perfect clarity can’t be good. Not in the slightest. Sometimes it is all in the details. I have a camera that can take amazing photos that should I want to, I could increase the image size considerably. But I’m never likely going to want to….. And the camera I always have on my person is my phone. My 3mega pixel phone! Would it make a difference if I always carried my larger camera and used that instead of my phone?
Hmmmm the only time I see sense in that is when I’m taking super close up pics or landscapes. And I normally take my camera if I suspect I’m about to see beautiful scenery.
So no.
My phone will suffice for that everyday snapshot of life. For me to look back and think….”I remember that day, good times”. And if the lighting wasn’t perfect? Who cares. But if I’m emotionally captivated by the image. Great. Even better these days now there are apps like ShakeIt Photo and Hipstamtic for a great ‘real life in a moment effect’. The way apps like these treat colour and light only add to the viewing experience. I love my iPhone’s lens and the more I snap shots with it the more I understand it’s limitations, which allows me to compose better photos. Photos with feeling and body and hopefully photos that tell a good story.

I’m not a photographer…..

I’m a working mans snapshot collector.

See for yourself…. And judge
