Beer Festival time again

Its the end of Feb again and that means only one thing.

Bradford Beer Festival

This year marks my 8th year in attendance and again it was another quality night of fine ale and good company. And this year was busy. We arrived at half seven-ish and it seemed very crowded. Others in the group arrived at eight-ish and by then they had run out pint glasses. (You get a glass to drink from that you keep and take home included in the ticket price).

drunk

It’s always a lottery choosing a drink if you haven’t tasted it before as my friend Jesus found out. I think he re-named one particular drink Nana’s Snatch due to its distinctive flavour. To be fair though. It was the worst drink of the night. Everyone knows it because the beer festival seems the only night out I know where swapping drinks around for everyone to taste happens. As soon as you arrive back in the group from the bar people want to know what you’ve got. They are checking their programs and next thing you know your glass is getting passed around.

After a few drinks (each one a different ale…….mixing is never good) you walk around the food area with alot less caution. I mean, I was ready for a snack and stood browsing the scratchings and rather then buy a bag for a reasonably priced 60 pence. I bought 12 bags for a Fiver. Fucking beer making decisions for me again!

Not all that bad when I managed to sell 2 bags to someone for £2.00. Ha. Ripped off that guy.

Now I like real ale anyway so know the difference between dark and light and the like and how they will differ in taste. But this guy (below) tried to get me to buy a dark beer at 8.5% at around 8 o clock. Too early I told him. That’s the stuff I’m looking for the the end of the night not the start!

strong ale man

The night ended with a mucky curry and after that much ale it sure tasted good……It did the next morning.

I wish I could take my drink better. I’d've drunk more.
Oh well, ’til next year for another token pint glass, more real ale, scratchings and heated debate about the stuff that no-one really gives a toss about….
