I’d like to think so….In fact a year ago I was strict with my recycling and energy saving habits. Everything was recycled (that could’ve been anyway). But recently I’ve been getting slack. I still recycle my cans, bottles, paper and even plastic (which the fucking council doesn’t collect in my neck of the woods!!) but the odd can slips into the bin and and the TV may be left on stand-by once in a while and worse still my router used to be constantly on. I only use the net at night! Now although I should feel bad and the need to change the error of my ways I look around and see waste everywhere. I do my best gov, really I do but when the neighbours lights may be on all night. Computers left on at work and more and more cars seem to be cluttering my street. And that is all on a small scale. I’m not even thinking global waste yet!
So I ask you. Is the empty milk bottle that I recycle going to make any difference?
Consider. Natural evolution of mankind to move on and let civilisations progress the way they have done since we got up and started walking. Consuming every resource we can get our hands on to further the species. Without a second thought about who or what gets hurt in the process. Since before ‘never BC’ its been down hill for this planet and things are never going to get better so me, my good intentions and my empty milk bottle aren’t going to make the difference. Maybe not. But if WE, OUR good intentions and ALL our empty milk bottles are recycled. Well, that may just make a difference. Maybe. And this has to be the attitude to take, otherwise we won’t change sod all! Its our kids future we’re fucking up after all. We don’t want a situation arising where our kids are saying ‘Its our kids future we’re messing with’……This is where we’re heading with our all talk no action attitude to the environment.
So……
He’s a check list of simple changes and habits to adopt that don’t involve too much effort.
Don’t forget folks, its a team effort and there’s no i in team!!!!
Recycle all your glass bottles and cans. This is easy. Most councils collect these with the rubbish and you only need to rinse them whilst washing up. No time. No effort required…
Recycle all your plastic. I have to take my plastic to the supermarket but always tie this in with my weekly shop anyway. Minimal time. Minimal effort required…
Use re-usable shopping bags. Join me in abolishing carrier bags!
Use energy saver light bulbs….everywhere! That includes you Sticky Vicky!
Is your loft insulated? Mine is.
Turning your heating down isn’t as bad as it seems. My living room radiator hasn’t worked for a year plus and I’m not missing the heat it used to give off.
About 5 years ago myself and my Queen were driving a car each. Then we made the decision to get rid of one and save some money. We thought it would be troublesome at first but on the contrary. Adjusting to one car between the 2 of us was easy. And it will be for you so shut up moaning and making excuses. Do it!
Whats the point? Well for one thing you go to bed with a clear conscience and it gives you a sense of well being and achievement knowing that your habits may be washing off on your kids so that when they are older looking after the planet will become second nature….
Hopefully we’re not too late and although we’ll never know if we are, its still no excuse for laziness.
