Its a vicious circle. you borrow to live, live a little too well and never really live again (freely that is). That’s right! Your life might as well be over…….Well stretching it a bit but you know what I’m saying. And this is the main reason why debt should be avoided. Mortgages not included because lets face it no one buys a house out right. At least no one I know anyway. I’m talking about credit cards and loans.
I currently have a credit card and a loan and so I speak my mind with the confidence of someone who knows what its like to scrimp and scrape….
I don’t regret the loan because it was to consolidate myself and my Queens debts when we shacked up together and we’ve nearly paid it off. Sigh!
The credit card is mainly made up with bills for fixing the fucking car. Blast that wretched car into outer space!!
So although I have debt I’m quite careful and more then anything. Eager to clear it all.
The trouble is your always on the back foot. Playing catch up. You borrow. Continue to spend (live) and then have to pay back what you’ve borrowed……… Before long though your borrowing again before paying off the previous debt and the cycle goes on getting you further and further into debt.
So what do we do about it?
Here are some of my top tips I’ve picked up along the way from various sources.
Or at least where you can. The shopping bill will be slashed by up to a third and lets face it. Most of what you buy is lost in a meals you’ll make somewhere as an ingredient. Now. Admit it to yourselves…..You can’t taste the difference anyway.
It’ll cost you at least half and with some imagination who needs to go out anyway. Invite your friends round or light the candles and set the table for 2. mmmmm.
That basically means if you come into some extra cash and sometimes we do. Then use it to pay off some of that ever looming debt. Hard I know but worth it knowing it’ll be paid off sooner.
If you are going shopping or are out for the day or night. Have a budget figure in you head (a realistic figure, people) and try to stick to it. If you go over, so what. It won’t be by much and you’ll have spent less then rocking hell bent for leather without a care and then wondering where your money went the next day.
So. Debt is bad and until we clear it we are not free to do what we want.
When the money I earn is my own is the day I’ll buy you a drink and say. ‘Thank fuck that is over’.
